Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.14 (Explosive properties)
GLP compliance:
yes
Key result
Parameter:
thermal sensitivity - Koenen test: diameter of the orifice plate
Remarks on result:
not thermal sensitive if heated under defined confinement
Remarks:
for tests conducted with either the 6-mm or 2-mm diameter orifice plates
Key result
Parameter:
sensitiveness to impact: impact energy (J)
Remarks on result:
not sensitive to impact using an impact energy of 40 J
Remarks:
impact tests conducted at 48 Joules (3.5 kg at 1.40 m)
Key result
Parameter:
sensitiveness to friction: friction load (N)
Remarks on result:
not sensitive to friction using a friction load of 360 N

Test of thermal sensitivity: No explosions were observed for the test substance for tests conducted with either the 6-mm or 2-mm diameter orifice plates.

Test of mechanical sensitivity with respect to shock: No positive results were obtained for the test substance in 21 successive drop impact tests conducted at 48 Joules (3.5 kg at 1.40 m).

Test of mechanical sensitivity with respect to friction: No positive results were obtained for the test substance in any of the 6 trials conducted using a 360 N force.

Conclusions:
The substance is not explosive: no explosions were observed for tests conducted with either the 6-mm or 2-mm diameter orifice plates; no positive results were obtained in 21 successive drop impact tests conducted at 48 Joules (3.5 kg at 1.40 m); no positive results were obtained in any of the 6 trials conducted using a 360 N force.

Description of key information

Not explosive

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

There are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule.

Moreover, negative results were obtained for thermal sensitivity, sensitiveness to impact and sensitiveness to friction, in a study performed according to EU Method A.14.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on explosive properties of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

There are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule.

Moreover, negative results were obtained for thermal sensitivity, sensitiveness to impact and sensitiveness to friction, in a study performed according to EU Method A.14.
