Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
Appearance:
Appearance, physical state and colour determined by visible judgement.
The test item is a solid, light yellow with a ammonia-like odour.
Melting point:
The melting point of the test item is 83.1°C (average of three measurements). The capillary method was used.
Boiling point:
No defined boiling point of Methyl 3-aminocrotonate was determined in the study because a change of colour and densification were observed around the boiling point, indicating a possible degradation at about 205 °C. THe Siwoloboff-method was used.
Relative density:
The relative density is 1.1179 at 20°C. The pycnometer method was used..
Vapor pressure:
For calculation of the vapour pressure EPISuit was used (EPIWIN v. 4.1). The estimated vapour pressure is 2.79 hPa at 25°C using the Modified Grain Method.
Particle size:
Sample sieved particle size is between 0.063 mm and 0.250 mm.
Partition coefficient:
As the test item is unstable in water, experimantel determination of the Log Pow was not possible. The logKow is -0.27 used by water solubility estimates applying EPIWIN.
Water solubility:
A water solubility study acc. OECD-test guidelines was technically not feasible, due to fast hydrolysis. A roughly estimated water solubility, determined by a simplified pretest without analytics was found to be 18 g/L at 20°C (assuming that some partial hydroysis occured).
Surface tension:
The surface tension of a 1 g/l solution was found to be 69.93 mN/m at 19.27°C. Therefore, the substance is not considered to be a surfact active material.
Flash point:
The flash point is 91°C using Pensky-Martens closed cup method.
Auto flammability:
The relative self-ignition temperature is 270°C; a BAM-oven (Kühner) was used.
Flammability:
In the preliminary test the test item could not ignited. Based on the results of the preliminary test, no main test was performed. In addition, tests A.12 and A.13 were not conducted, as based on the chemical structure, the test item does neither react with water nor evolve any flammable gases in contact with (humid) air. Therefore, the test item was considered to be not flammable.
Explosiveness:
No explosive properties based on structure.
Oxidizing properties:
The substance does not exhibit oxidizing properties.
