Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- supporting study
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.14 (Explosive properties)
- Version / remarks:
- EC Directive 92/69 A.14
- GLP compliance:
- yes
- Parameter:
- thermal sensitivity - Koenen test: diameter of the orifice plate
- Number of fragments:
- 0
- Remarks on result:
- not thermal sensitive if heated under defined confinement
- Parameter:
- sensitiveness to impact: impact energy (J)
- Remarks on result:
- not sensitive to impact using an impact energy of 40 J
- Parameter:
- sensitiveness to friction: friction load (N)
- Remarks on result:
- sensitive to friction
- Remarks:
- Loading at 360 N; 2 time positive (sparks observed), 4 times negative
- Interpretation of results:
- other: Sensitive to friction
- Conclusions:
- During a series of tests, the substance was found to be sensitive to friction (explosive properties seen within mechnical sensivity test). Explosive properties were not seen in the presence of a flame or by the application of mechanical shock.
- Endpoint:
- explosive properties of explosives
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties

Description of key information
In a GLP-compliant, EU method study which assess the explosive properties of the substance using 3 different tests it was determined that the test substance was sensitive to friction (360N load).
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Explosiveness:
- non explosive
Additional information
Justification for classification or non-classification
The key information available concerning explosive properties of the substance does not contain sufficient information to determine classification under the CLP regulation (EU 1272/2008 as amended). It is clear that the substance is not explosive in the presence of flame or by the application of mechanical shock but the results of a supporting study indicate the substance may be sensitive to friction. However, the test methods used (EC methods) are not sufficient to consider classification under CLP where UN Method results are required. Based on the substance structure, there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties, and the substance has an oxygen balance of < -200 (-257.9), and accordingly would not be considered explosive. The classification for this endpoint is non-explosive.
