Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets
Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Organizational risk management measures:
• Personnel are trained in use of the manufacturing or application equipment
• Environmental, health and safety guidelines or written instructions on the standard operating procedure (SOP) are utilized
• Environment, health and safety (EHS) responsibilities are defined and assigned in writing
• Emergency action plans (Rescue training for accidental emissions) are created
• Personnel are trained in environment, health and safety issues, i.e. in safe handling of chemicals and good housekeeping
• Good hygiene measures practiced
Procedural and control technologies in place to minimise emissions and resulting exposures at workplace:
• Exhaust ventilation applied and is integrated with systems described in the technical means.
• Variable speed fans are used to provide extraction rates suitable for changing conditions.
• System to operate automatically the fans, valves and dampers to ensure optimal collection efficiency and prevent diffuse emissions.
• The Tellurium process is fully automated and operated from a closed ventilated control room. Operations in place at the reactors include
short-term observation tasks (visual inspection tour and sampling) to ensure proper operations.
• Workers do not directly handle the intermediate.
• Residual exposure to metals (Pb) is below the exposure limits and/or biological limit values.
• Exposure to the major metal constituent from metal manufacturing has been assessed and documented in the corresponding metal Chemical safety report.
Conditions and risk management measures related to personal protection, hygiene and health evaluation:
Workers are protected generally through use of PPE. This is not due to specific exposures to the raw tellurium product but the overall requirement placed on metals producing and handling facilities. E.g. precautionary protection, heat-resistant working clothes, helmet, safety glasses and gloves) are required due to exposure to e.g. Pb and Ni. Use of respiratory protection P2 half mask takes place in the maintenance and manual sampling in the dryers to protect workers against the dust.
• Skin/eyes: Dermal exposure is controlled and personal protection is used during tasks where contamination of skin may occur.
• All personal protective devices shall fulfill local, relevant standards.
More detailed information on the process and the strictly controlled conditions is provided in the attachment [BOL_MAIN-#1201609-v1-SCC_Sludge_Calcine] in section 13 and description of manufacturing process in section 2.1.
