Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

According to the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 201, no toxic effects against algae were observed at a limit test concentration of 100 mg/L (active ingredient) under exposure conditions. Based on growth rate for naphthalene-1,5-disulfonic acid an 72h-EC50 of > 100 mg/L and a72 h-NOEC of >= 100 mg/L was observed.

The results are expressed in terms of nominal concentrations. Effective concentrations ranged from 99.9 % to 100.8 % of nominal values of the active ingredient at 0 hours, and from 98.4 % to 101.3 % of nominal values of the active ingredient at 72 hours.

Read-across justification:

Disodium-naphthalene-1,5-disulphonate (CAS 1655-29-04) is the sodium salt of naphthalene-1,5-disulphonic acid (CAS 81-04-9). It can be assumed that sodium is not ecotoxicologically relevant related to the requirements of concern. At diluted aqueous conditions the dissolved disodium-naphthalene-1,5-disulphonate will have no different behaviour as the parent acid. Therefore, the results obtained with naphthalene-1,5-disulphonic acid were used for the read-across approach.
