Administrative data
First-aid measures
Inhalation : Move the person away from the contaminated area. Make the affected person rest. Seek medical advice.
Skin contact : Remove all contaminated clothing and footwear. Wash immediately and thoroughly for a prolonged period (at least 15 minutes).
In case of inflammation (redness, irritation, ...) obtain medical attention.
Eye contact : Immediately rinse with plenty of running water for a prolonged period, (at least 15 minutes) whilst keeping the eyes wide open. In case of irritation, obtain mediacl attention.
Ingestion : NEVER attempt to induce vomiting. Do not give anything to drink. If necessary seek medical advice.
Furher information : Establish a first aid action plan before using this product. Use appropriate protective equipment when treating a contaminated person. Place contaminated clothing in a sealed bag for disposal.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media
- Not suitable : Strong water jet.
- Suitable : Carbon dioxide (CO2), powder
Specific hazards : reacts violently with water.
Specific fire fighting methods : Cool down the containers/equipment exposed to heat with a water spray. Do not breathe fumes. Evacuate the personnel away from the fumes. Do NOT attempt to fight the fire without suitable protective equipment. Stay upwind.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions : Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not breathe vapours.
Only qualified personnel equipped with suitable protective equipment may intervene.
Shelter from vapours by keeping upwind.
Stop the leak. Turn leaking containers leak-side up to prevent the escape of liquid.
Recover the product as quickly as possible. Mechanically ventilate the spillage area, whilst avoiding the formation of explosive concentrations.
Environmental precautions : Prevent the product from spreading into the environment.
Methods for cleaning up :
- Recovery : Pump up the product into a spare container : suitably labelled, made of stainless steel., with a closing device.
- Neutralization : If recovery is impossible, or if the pools are too small: Cover the pool of liquid with inert absorbent material.
- Cleaning/Decontamination : Wash non-recoverable remainder with large amounts of 5% sodium carbonate solution. Then wash with plenty of water.
- Disposal : Incinerate contaminated materials at an authorized installation.
Handling and storage
HANDLING
- Technical measures :.Install a retention tank.Vapour extraction at source. Only use materials resistant to strong acids.
- Measures : this product must only be handled by skilled operators. Avoid contact with water or humidity.
STORAGE
- Technical measures :
The floor of the depot should be impermeable and designed to form a water-tight basin.
- Storage conditions : Recommended : Store in a cool, well-ventilated area, away from humidity and any source of ingnition. Incompatible products : alkalis and caustic products, water, humidity.
- Packaging : stainless steel, Aluminium and its allys, uncoated metals.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Engineering measures : Full enclosure or very efficient local exhaust ventilation. Extraction to remove vapours at their source.
Personal protective equipment
- Respiratory protection : Iin case of insufficient ventilation, wear self-contained breathing apparatus (EN 141).
- Hand protection : Use suitable chemical-resistant protective gloves (compliant with Standard EN 374-1)
The selection of gloves must take into account the extent and duration of use at the workstation. Protective gloves must be chosen according to the function of the work station: other chemicals which may be handled, physical protection necessary (resistance to cutting, puncture, heat), dexterity required. Protective gloves made of PVC.
- Eye protection : Safety spectacles with side shields. If there is a risk of liquid being splashed : Safety spectacles and a face shield.
- Skin and body protection : Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection.
Personal protective equipment must be defined after risk assessment for the workstation.
Collective emergency Equipment : Emergency equipment and first-aid box with instructions readily available. Safety shower. Eye fountain.
Hygiene measures : Do NOT drink, eat or smoke in the workplace. Separate normal clothes from work-clothes. Keep personal protective equipment in a clean place, away from the work area. Use clean and correctly maintained personal protective equipment. Before re-use, thoroughly clean: - personal protective
equipment. Always wash your hands immediately after handling this product, and once again before leaving the workplace.
Further information : The user is responsible for monitoring the working environment in accordance with local laws and regulations.
Stability and reactivity
Stability : hydrolyses in contact with humidity. Stable in normal storage conditions.
Hazardous reactions : reacts with metals and forms very flamable hydrogen gas.
- Materials to avoid : water, aqueous solutions, alkalis and caustic products, alcohols, oxidants.
- Hazardous decomposition products : On thermal decomposition (pyrolysis) releases: toxic gases, chlorinated compouds, phosgene, chlorhydric acid.
Disposal considerations
RESIDUES FROM PRODUCT
- Prohibition : Do not allow the product to be released into the environment. Do NOT discharge into drains.
- Destruction/Disposal : Incinerate at a licensed installation.
CONTAMINATED PACKAGING
- Prohibition : Do not burn empty packaging.
- Decontamination/cleaning : Allow it to drain thoroughly. Clean with perchloroethylene. Recover the solvent used for rinsing and incinerate at a licensed site.
- Destruction/Disposal : Entrust the thoroughly decontaminated packaging to a licensed waste-contractor.
NOTE : The user's attention is drawn to the possible existence of local regulations regarding disposal.
