Administration / exposure
- Route of administration:
- inhalation: vapour
- Type of inhalation exposure:
- whole body
- Vehicle:
- other: unchanged (no vehicle)
- Details on inhalation exposure:
- Groups of six male rats were exposed to vapours generated from test material at room temperature and at 135°C. An additional group of rats was maintained as controls for each material. The rats were exposed for 7 hours in a 19-litre exposure chamber. Air was bubbled through the material to be tested and the vapours generated passed to the chamber. Control animals were exposed to filtered room air.
- Analytical verification of test atmosphere concentrations:
- no
- Duration of exposure:
- 7 h
- Concentrations:
- The nominal concentration to which animals were exposed was 43 ppm at room temperature and 1710 ppm at 135°C.
- No. of animals per sex per dose:
- 6
- Control animals:
- yes
- Details on study design:
- The animals were observed for signs of toxicity during the exposure and during a two-week post-exposure observation period. Body weights were recorded before the exposure, the day following and periodically during the post-exposure period. One animal from each group was sacrificed for gross pathological examination the day following the exposure and the remaining animals were sacrificed for gross examination at the end of the two-week post-exposure observation period.

- Executive summary:
Groups of 6 male rats were exposed to vapors of IOTG generated at room temperature (43 ppm) or at 135°C (1710 ppm) for 7 hours. Animals were observed for 14 days. There were no deaths and gross pathological examination revealed no treatment-related changes.
