Additional information

Since no experimental studies investigating the long-term toxicity of 3,5,5 trimethylhexanoic acid, mixed esters with dipentaerythritol (UVCB, CAS 84418-63-3) to aquatic invertbrates are available for this endpoint, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 a read across to the structurally related source substance Fatty acids, C5-9, hexaesters with dipentaerythritol (CAS 67762 -52 -1) was conducted. This read-across is justified in detail in the overall summary (IUCLID section 6.1) and within the analogue justification in IUCLID Section 13. Both substances consists of the same alcohol component (dipentaerythritol) and a similar fatty acid chain lengths as the target substance (C9iso for the target substance compared to C5, C7 and 9iso for the source substance).

The study with the read across substance Fatty acids, C5-9, hexaesters with dipentaerythritol was conducted under semi-static conditions according to OECD 211 (GLP) using Daphnia magna as test organism. A nominal loading rate of 100 mg/L (prepared as WAF) was tested. Analytical monitoring showed that the measured test concentration was less than the limit of quantification (0.0022 mg/L) reflecting the very low water solubility of the test substance. After 21 d no effects were observed. No mortality and no effects on reproduction were observed. Therefore, the NOELR (21 d) was derived to be >= 100 mg/L (nominal) based on reproduction.

Based on the available results from this structurally related read-across substance (in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5) which is characterized by a similar ecotoxicological profile and comparable structure, it can be concluded that of 3,5,5 trimethylhexanoic acid, mixed esters with dipentaerythritol (UVCB, CAS 84418-63-3) will not exhibit long-term effects on aquatic invertebrates up to the limit of water solubility.
