Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The results of the terrestrial toxicity test documented in this section demonstrate the very limited hazard of the slag for terrestrial organisms, e.g. earthworms. Further, transformation/dissolution tests in aqueous media (IUCLID 5.6.) and of the aquatic tests in this section 6 all consistently demonstrate the very limited solubility of slag, lead-zinc smelting.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Slags, lead -zinc smelting are very stable also in soils. There is no toxicity observed to earthworms. The results on soil toxicity obtained with soluble or slightly soluble zinc compounds are not considered relevant for slag, lead-zinc smelting.
