Description of key information
A 96-Hour acute toxicity guideline study in Carp with Modified Small Vinyl Ester was performed. The carps were exposed to Water Accommodated Fraction (WAF) after a loading rate of 100 mg/L. Analysis of the samples taken at the start of the first and the last refreshment period were not identical but clearly above or on the water solubility of Modified Small Vinyl Ester.
Under the conditions of the test, Modified Small Vinyl Ester induced no lethal effects in carp at the water solubility limit. Hence, the 96h-LC50was above the water solubility limit.

A 96-Hour acute toxicity guideline study in Carp with Modified Small Vinyl Ester was performed. The study met the acceptability criteria prescribed by the protocol and was considered valid.
A semi-static limit test was performed based on the results of a preceding static combined limit/range-finding test. Preparation of the test concentration was performed daily and started with a loading rate of 100 mg/L applying three days of magnetic stirring in ISO medium The resulting aqueous mixture was observed to be hazy white with a floating layer on the first day and hazy with a precipitate and a floating layer on the three following days. These mixtures were left to stabilize for 2-3 hours whereafter the Water Accommodated Fraction (WAF) was taken out by filtration through glasswool and used for testing. The final test solutions ranged from hazy white to slightly hazy.
Seven fish per concentration were exposed under dimmed light to a control and a WAF prepared at a loading rate of 100 mg/L. The total test period was 96 hours and test solutions were refreshed daily. Samples for analytical confirmation of actual exposure concentrations were taken at the start and the end of the first and the last refreshment period.
Analysis of the samples taken at the start of the first and the last refreshment period were not identical but clearly above or on the water solubility limit of the test substance based on both bisGMA (0.42 mg/L) and the monomaleic adduct of bisGMA (37.6 mg/L). Test concentrations proved to remain fairly stable during the 24-hour refreshment periods (66-97% of initial).
Under the conditions of the test Modified Small Vinyl Ester induced no lethal effects in carp at the water solubility limit. Hence, the 96h-LC50was above the water solubility limit.
