Test animals
- Species:
- rabbit
- Strain:
- New Zealand White
- Details on test animals or test system and environmental conditions:
- Environmental controls for the animal room were set to maintain 18 to 24°C, a relative humidity of 40 to 70%, at least 10 air changes/hour, and a 12-hour light/12-hour dark cycle: the photoperiod was between 7:00 and 19:00 hrs daily. Any variations to these conditions were recorded in the raw data and had no effect on the outcome of the study.AccommodationAnimals were individually housed in labeled cages with perforated floors (Ebeco, Germany, dimensions 67 x 62 x 55 cm) and shelters (Ebeco, Germany, dimensions 40 x 32 x 23 cm). Acclimatization period was at least 5 days before start of treatment under laboratory conditions.DietPelleted diet for rabbits (Global Diet 2030 from Harlan Teklad®, Mucedola, Milanese, Italy) approximately 100 grams per day. Hay (TecniLab-BMI BV, Someren, The Netherlands) and wooden sticks (Swedish aspen wood, Bioservices, Uden, The Netherlands) were available during the study period.WaterFree access to tap water. Diet, water, bedding and cage enrichment evaluation for contaminants and/or nutrients was performed according to facility standard procedures. There were no findings that could interfere with the study.
Test system
- Type of coverage:
- semiocclusive
- Preparation of test site:
- clipped
- Vehicle:
- unchanged (no vehicle)
- Amount / concentration applied:
- 0.5 mL neat
- Duration of treatment / exposure:
- 4 hours
- Details on study design:
- Each animal was treated by dermal application of 0.5 mL of the test substance. The test substance was applied to the skin of one flank, using a metalline patch of 2x3 cm. The patch was mounted on Micropore tape, which was wrapped around the abdomen and secured with Coban elastic bandage. Four hours after the application, the dressing was removed and the skin cleaned of residual test substance using tap water.

- Irritant / corrosive response data:
- Four hours exposure to 0.5 mL of Weston 430 resulted in very slight erythema in the treated skin areas of the three rabbits. The skin irritation resolved within 24 hours after exposure in all animals.
- Other effects:
- There was no evidence of a corrosive effect on the skin. No staining of the treated skin by the test substance was observed and no test substance remnants were seen.No symptoms of systemic toxicity were observed in the animals during the test period and no mortality occurred.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Interpretation of results:
- not irritating
- Remarks:
- Migrated informationCriteria used for interpretation of results: EU
- Conclusions:
- The test material caused very slight erythema in the treated skin areas of the three rabbits. The skin irritation resolved within 24 hours after exposure in all animals. There was no evidence of a corrosive effect on the skin. No staining of the treated skin by the test substance was observed and no test substance remnants were seen.7.4.Toxicity / MortalityNo symptoms of systemic toxicity were observed in the animals during the test period and no mortality occurred.
- Executive summary:
The test material caused only very slight erythema which was completely resolved in 24 hours post exposure. The results indicated that tris dipropylene glycol phosphite should not be classified as a skin irritant.
