Additional information

Aluminium metaphosphate (EC 237-415-3, CAS 13776-88-0) is inorganic solid white powder. The substance has a melting point > 400°C and therefore a study for boiling point does not need to be conducted. The density of aluminium metaphosphate was determined to be 860 g/L at 20 °C and the water solubility ranges from 0.0191 to 0.0842 g/ and is dependent on the media pH and on the manufacturing process. It was concluded that 0.0315 g/L is relevant to assess chemical safety since it represents the maximum solubility at a neutral pH. In addition to the OECD 105 water solubility test, a transformation/dissolution study (OECD 29) was performed and under these simulating environmental conditions, aluminium metaphosphate shows a solubility of 35.78 µg/L after 28 days.

The granulometry data shows that 99 % of the particles of aluminium metaphosphate are < 100 µm in diameter and therefore, the substance is considered to pose an inhalation risk.

Overall, it can be concluded that aluminium metaphosphate (EC 237-415-3, CAS 13776-88-0) is not considered to possess any of the following hazardous physical-chemical properties: autoflammability and/or self-ignition, flammability, explosiveness and oxidising properties.

Thus, the substance does not meet the classification criteria for physical-chemical hazard in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP) and the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).
