Reference
Endpoint:
short-term toxicity to fish
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 203 (Fish, Acute Toxicity Test)
Version / remarks:
17 July 1992
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Analytical monitoring:
yes
Details on sampling:
Triplicate samples (3 x 2 x ~5 mL) were taken at the beginning and at the end of the renewal periods. Samples from the control were taken at the start and end of the renewal periods (1 x 2 x ~5 mL).
Sampled test item solutions were stored in a freezer until measurement.
Vehicle:
no
Details on test solutions:
A stock solution with a concentration of 100.0 mg anhydrous form of test item/L was prepared with direct addition of the test item, mixed into aquarium water using ultrasonic bath (approximately 30 seconds), then distributed into the appropriate test flasks. As a Limit test was carried out, further dilution of stock solution was not performed.
Test organisms (species):
Danio rerio (previous name: Brachydanio rerio)
Details on test organisms:
TEST ORGANISM
- Common name: Zebrafish (Brachydanio rerio)
- Source: Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Department of Aquaculture 2100 Gödöllő, Páter Károly u. 1., Hungary
- Length at study initiation (length definition, mean, range and SD): 1.7 – 2.3 cm
- Weight at study initiation (mean and range, SD): control: Measured weight
of 7 fish (g) => 1.14g; Calculated mean weight of 1 fish (g) => 0.16g; test item: Measured weight
of 7 fish (g) => 0.84g; Calculated mean weight of 1 fish (g) => 0.12g
- Method of breeding: Fish were bred in a standard commercial fish farm, under disease- and parasite-controlled conditions.

ACCLIMATION
- Acclimation period: >12d
Test type:
semi-static
Water media type:
freshwater
Limit test:
yes
Total exposure duration:
96 h
Hardness:
171 mg CaCO3/L
Test temperature:
19.4 - 21.2°C
pH:
7.88 - 8.27
Dissolved oxygen:
80 - 100 %
Nominal and measured concentrations:
nominal: 100 mg/l

OTHER TEST CONDITIONS
- Adjustment of pH: no
- Photoperiod: 16 hours light (artificial illumination) and 8 hours darkness

TEST CONCENTRATIONS
Range finding study
