Endpoint:
auto-ignition temperature (liquids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2018-06-19
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.15 (Auto-Ignition Temperature (Liquids and Gases))
Version / remarks:
Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008 laying down test methods pursuant to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), Method A.15, Official Journal of the European Union L 142 of 31 May 2008
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
higher initial volume injected does not affect results of study
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Due to the technical errors, 200 µL of the test item to be tested was injected into the flask at the beginning of the study instead of 100 µL. Moreover, the steps for increasing the temperature were different than indicated in the study plan. These facts had no impact on the study on the results or integrity of the study (from 207°C the study was performed according to the study plan).
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Name: Reaction mass of dipentene and (Z)-3,7-dimethylocta-1,3,6,-triene
Public name: Ocimene PQ
EC number: 933-779-9 (pre-registration 222-081-3)
CAS number: n/a (pre-registration 3338-55-4)
Batch/Lot number: A170524D
Appearance: Colourless liquid
Purity: Considered as 100 %
Expiry date: 06 June 2019
Storage conditions: Room temperature (15-25°C, ≤ 70 % relative humidity (RH)), under inert gas, protected from humidity (tightly closed container)
Auto-ignition temperature:
> 216 °C
Atm. press.:
98.2 kPa
Remarks on result:
other: See 'Remarks'
Remarks:
no auto-ignition temperature up to 216°C

Temperature was measured in case of each experiment at the outside and inside of the flask. The steps for increasing/decreasing the temperature was approximately 3°C.

The temperature distribution was steady outside the flask.

The ignition delay time was determined when ignition was observed.

The test was carried out at 98.2 kPa atmospheric pressure.
