Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short-term fish toxicity to fish

The short-term toxicity of TMEDA to fish was determined in a 96-hour static test performed according to USEPA TSCA 40 CFR Part 797.1400 Guideline and in compliance with GLP (Tepper, 1988). The 96 -h LC50 was 240 mg/L. The lowest concentration causing 100% mortality was 320 mg/L and the highest concentration causing no mortality was 180 mg/L. All concentrations are reported as nominal concentrations.

Short-term fish toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

The short-term toxicity of TMEDA to Daphnia magna was determined under semi-static conditions in an OECD 202 Guideline study and in compliance with GLP (Kümich, 2018). The 48-h EC50 was >76 mg/L (actual, geomean measured) and the corresponding 48-h NOEC was 38.5 mg/L (actual).

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

The effects of TMEDA on the growth of the unicellular freshwater alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata were determined in a 72-hour static test performed according to OECD 201 and in compliance with GLP (Schuster, 2018). The 72 -h ErC50 causing a 50% reduction in specific growth rate compared to the untreated control was 20.5 mg/L (95% CL: 11.7 to 37.9 mg/L). The ErC10 was 4.82 mg/L and the corresponding NOErC was 0.954 mg/L.

Toxicity to microorganisms

The toxicity control treatment of the available OECD 301B ready biodegradability test for TMEDA (Flach, 2018) demonstrated that there was no toxicity to activated sludge microorganisms following exposure of 40 mg/L organic carbon (corresponding to 56.7 mg TMEDA/L). As such, a NOEC of 56.7 mg/L is concluded for microorganisms.
