One key study is available to assess the long-term toxicity of Chimexane HB to the juvenile Rainbow trout. This study was performed according to the principles of OECD 215 (2008) and Commission EC Regulation 440/2008 Method C.14 (2008) with GLP statement over a period of 28d.
The test was conducted under flow-through condition, using five concentrations (0.0855, 0.188, 0.413, 0.909 and 2.0 mg test item/L, corresponding to 0.0465, 0.102, 0.225, 0.495 and 1.09 mg dry extract/L) plus control, 16 fish per test concentration. Concentrations were analytically verified via LC-MS/MS at the day -1, 0 and weekly until the end of the experiment.
The flow-through system produced stable concentrations. With one exception (122% of the nominal value), all other measured concentrations were in the range of 80 -120% of the nominal values. Therefore, all effect levels were based on nominal concentrations and corresponding dry extract concentrations respectively.
Mortality was observed only at the highest concentration (69% at 28d, at 1.09 mg dry extract/L). Growth rate and body weight were not significantly affected at the other test concentrations. NOEC based on mortality could be determined at 0.495 mg dry extract/L; however this NOEC value may not be sufficiently robust considering the primary goal and statistical treatment of the test.
