First-aid measures

IF INHALED: Remove victim to fresh. Seek medical advice if you feel unwell.

IF ON SKIN: Wash contaminated skin with soap and plenty of water. Remove/ take off contaminated clothing and shoes. Seek medical attention if the victim feels unwell or skin irritation / rash occur.

IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with running water for several minutes while holding eyelid(s) open so that all sites can be rinsed well. Seek medical attention if pain or irritation occurs.

IF INGESTED: Do not induce vomiting. Rinse mouth thoroughly with water. Seek medical attention if the victim feels unwell or any symptoms appear.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Carbon dioxide, dry chemical, water fog or alcohol resistant foam is recommended for small fires. For large fires, use aqueous foam or water fog. Use water spray or fog to cool fire exposed containers.

Product arising from burning: Fumes produced when heated to decomposition temperatures may contain carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Combustion products must be considered toxic.

Protective equipment: Wear positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus during the attack phases of firefighting operations and during cleanup in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas immediately after a fire.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear respiratory protection and protective clothing, ventilate area, remove all sources of ignition and use non- sparking tools and equipment to contain spill and recover as much as possible. Absorb remaining residue with inert material and place into closed containers to await disposal; for large spils, use dykes made from inert material to avoid spread.

Wash spill area with soap and water. Do not allow the product to enter sewers or waterways.

Handling and storage

Handling: Use only in well ventilated areas. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Keep container closed when not in use. Recommend purging opened containers with nitrogen to limit peroxide formation.
Do not eat, smoke or drink where the product is handled or processed. Wash hands thoroughly before eating or smoking.
Evaluate transfer operations for potential static charge build-up and ground and bond accordingly. Use non-sparking tools and equipment. Empty containers may contain product residue (liquid and/or vapour) and can be dangerous. Do not pressurise, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind or expose empty containers to heat, sparks, open flames or incompatible materials. Enclose operations and/or provide local exhaust ventilation to draw fumes, vapours or mists away from workers. For protection against process vapours or mists, workers will wear a NIOSH approved respirator suitable for the anticipated airborne concentration. Workers will wear a positive pressure air-supplied respirator in situations where there may be potential for elevated airborne exposure. During processing operations, splash proof goggles or safety glasses with face shield suitable for keeping liquid out of the eyes will be worn when potential exists for eye contact. Rubber gloves and apron will be worn when skin contact is anticipated. An eye wash facility and safety shower will be provided.

Storage: Store in a dark, dry, cool, well ventilated location away from heat, sparks, flame and direct sunlight. Store in stainless steel, lined steel, glass or polyethylene containers. Do not eat, smoke or drink where the product is stored.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: The test substance is packaged in stainless steel containers .

Additional information
Special provisions / remarks / other:
Transport code: UNNO - 1993
Transport: The test substance is assigned Classification Code 3, with proper shipping name of "FLAMMABLE LIQUID, N.O.S. CYCLOPENTYL METHYL ETHER".

Exposure controls / personal protection

Engineering controls:
Use of mechanical and overall/local exhaust ventilation is recommended to minimise airborne concentration as low as possible.
If mechanical ventilation is used, electrical systems should confirm to national/ regional electrical code.
Ensure good ventilation in order to prevent generation and accumulation of flammable liquid.

Individual protection measures, such as personal protective equipment:
Respiratory protection: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus if generation of vapour or splashing mist is concerned.
Skin protection: Wear impermeable work clothing.
Eye protection: Wear chemical goggles or safety glasses if splashing mist is concerned.
Hand protection: Wear rubber gloves when cleaning up working devices.
Wash hands thoroughly before eating, drinking, smoking or using toilet facilities.

Environmental exposure controls:
Avoid release to the environment.
Operate in accordance with the national and/or international laws and regulation.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity
The product reacts with oxidisers and may cause risks of explosion and fire.

Chemical stability
Stable under normal conditions.
The product is stable to alkaline but less stable to acid.

Possibility of hazardous reactions
May form explosive peroxides in the presence of air or sunlight.

Conditions to avoid
Overheating, heat, sparks, sunlight or open flame.

Incompatible materials
Strong acids, strong oxidisers, nitric acid, hydrogen peroxide or hydrazine.

Hazardous decomposition products
Not known. If overheated or in fire, decomposition products may contain carbon oxides and peroxides.

Disposal considerations

Disposal of liquid wastes and solids containing free liquid by landfill is prohibit in the most jurisdictions.
It is recommended to incinerate wastes and containers at high temperature in accordance with the national and international laws and regulations.
Containers of this product may be hazardous when emptied.
Empty containers may retain this product as liquid and vapours.
