Description of key information
Hydrolysis half-life in water < 16 min based on read across from reaction mass containing six benzylated amine silanes (EC 700-961-2).
Key value for chemical safety assessment
Additional information
No experimental data on the hydrolysis rate of 1,2-Ethanediamine, N-{3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl}-,N-{(ethenylphenyl)methyl}derivate,hydrochlorides (CAS 171869-89-9) are available. Therefore and in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 “Grouping of substances and read across” and in accordance with the read across assessment framework (RAAF, ECHA 2017) a read across from the analogue substance reaction mass containing six benzylated amine silanes (EC 700-961-2) has been applied in order to gain information on the biodegradation potential of the target substance. Details on the read-across justification can be found in the attached justification in the respective target entry and in the overall justification for grouping of substances attached in IUCLID Section 13.
The determination of the hydrolysis rate of reaction mass containing six benzylated amine silanes (EC 700-961-2) was conducted according to EU Method C.10 and GLP (1993). Methanol was evaporated from the substance. The resulting residue a test solution on methanol was prepared at a concentration of approx. 190 mg/L. The concentration of the organofunctional silane in the test solution was determined before and after addition of 0.2, 1.0, 5.0 and 10.0% water. 99, 69, 28 and 0% of the test substance was recovered (relative to the concentration in the solution without addition of water) after 16.8 min. Hence, it was concluded that the substance is hydrolytically unstable. The hydrolysis half-life in water is < 16 min.
Based on these results and the similarity of the substances, the hydrolysis rate of 1,2-Ethanediamine, N-{3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl}-,N-{(ethenylphenyl)methyl}derivate, hydrochlorides (CAS 171869-89-9) is expected to be in the same range of magnitude.
