Description of key information

Metal carboxylates such as calcium neodecanoate are substances consisting of a metal cation and a carboxylic acid anion. Based on the solubility of calcium neodecanoate in water, a complete dissociation of calcium neodecanoate resulting in calcium and neodecanoate ions may be assumed under environmental conditions. Abiotic degradation is not relevant for calcium ions.Neodecanoate anions have potential for an indirect photochemical degradation but this process appears to be negligible. Furthermore, a direct photochemical degradation is unlikely since neodecanoic acid does not absorb light within a range of 290 to 750 nm. In addition, calcium cations and neodecanoate are not subject to hydrolyzation as both ions lack hydrolysable groups.Therefore, abiotic degradation is not considered to significantly affect the fate of calcium neodecanoate in the environment.
