Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
Additional information
Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
Acutely harmful to aquatic invertebrates.
In a key static acute toxicity study (Maxxam Analytics, TOX1621, 2016), the effect of the test substance to cause immobilisation to Daphnia magna was determined according to OECD 202 (2004). The test concentrations were analytically verified. Based on the nominal concentrations of the test substance the 48-h EC50 was determined to be 50.1 mg/L.
Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria
With high probability acutely not hamrful to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria
In a key static growth inhibition study (Maxxam Analytics, TOX1719, 2017; BASF project no. 60E0566/15X373), the effect of vinylmercaptoethanol on Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was studied according to OECD 201. The test concentrations were analytically verified. The following effect values were determined based on the growth rate: 72 -h ErC50 > 100 mg/L (nominal), 72 -h ErC10 > 100 mg/L (nominal).
Toxicity to microorganisms
The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when the substance is introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
The effects of the test substance on the oxygen consumption rate of aerobic microorganisms (activated sludge, domestic) after short-term exposure of 3 h were determined according to the OECD 209 (2010). The 3 -h EC50 was determined to be > 1000 mg/L (nominal), the 3h EC20 was determined to be 210 mg/L (nominal) and the 3 -h EC10 was determined to be < 62.5 mg/L (nominal).
