Description of key information

Studies (OECD SIDS evaluation 2004) on algae using excess loadings of sodium aluminium silicate showed no acute toxicity. Studies (Väntsi 2008) on algae using process waste water from Ferrochromium plant showed no acute toxicity, samples caused algae growth (inhibition-% < 0) which implicates that sample contained nutrients algae can intake. Based on these two studies it can be expected that Ferrochromium slag does not cause any toxic effects to aquatic algae.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No PNEC's have been calculated for Ferrochrome slag. Based on the very low solubility of constituents of Ferrochrome slag, they are not relevant for the environmental hazard assessment of Ferrochrome slag.
