- Interpretation of results:
- not classified based on GHS criteria
- Conclusions:
- The substance could not be ignited. ln conclusion the substance is not "highly flammable".
According to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) of the United Nations, n-Butyltriphenylphosphonium bromide does not have to be classified for flammability.
According to the criteria of REGULATION (EC) No 1272/2008, n-Butyltriphenylphosphonium bromide does not have to be classified and has no obligatory labeling requirement for flammability.
Reference
The test item was not flammable within 2 minutes by the flame of a gas burner within the ignition zone (the first 50 mm of the formed test item). When the white, powdery test item was directly exposed to the hot burner flame, little sparking could be observed and the powder melted into a colorless liquid which turned into light brown after longer exposition in the burner flame. When enough melted test item was present, it burned only for a moment with an orange flame after removing the burner flame. Greyish smoke occurred and in front of the ignition zone black soot was noticed. After cooling off, the melted test item solidified to crystals of white to light brown color.

Justification for classification or non-classification
As n-Butyltriphenylphosphonium bromide can not be ignited, the substance is classified as ‘Not readily combustible solid of Division 4.1’ in the sense of the test guideline UN Test N.1.
According to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) of the United Nations, n-Butyltriphenylphosphonium bromide does not have to be classified as flammable.
According to the criteria of REGULATION (EC) No 1272/2008, n-Butyltriphenylphosphonium bromide does not have to be classified and has no obligatory labelling requirement for flammability.
