Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Contact a doctor immediately.
- After inhalation: take the casualty into the fresh air and keep warm. In all cases of doubt, or when symptoms persist, seek medical attention.
- After skin contact: wash away with soap and water and rinse. Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. In case of any contact immediately seek medical advice.
- After eye contact: Remove contact lenses, keep eyelids open. Flush with plenty of water (10 - 15 min). Call a physician.
- After ingestion: Immediately call a poison center or doctor/physician. Rinse mouth with cold water.
- Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed: none known.
- Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed: none.

Fire-fighting measures

- Suitable extinguishing media: sand, foam, CO2, dry extinguisher.
- Unsuitable extinguishing media: water, water haze, water spray jet, waterjet.
- Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture: in case of fire do not breathe fumes. In case of fire toxic gases may be formed. When exposed to high temperatures may produce hazardous decomposition products such as carbon monoxide and dioxide, smoke, halogenated hydrocarbons.
- Advice for firefighters: appropriate breathing apparatus may be required. When extinguishing fires, use breathing apparatus with and independent source of air.
- Additional information: exothermic reaction with water.

Accidental release measures

- Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures: refer to protective measures listed in “Handling and storage” and “Exposure controls/personal protection”. Avoid contact with the skin and mouth. Do not inhale vapour.
- Environmental precautions: do not empty into waters or drains. Refer to protective measures listed in “Handling and storage” and “Exposure controls/personal protection”. If the product contaminates lakes, rivers or sewages, inform appropriate authorities in accordance with local regulations.
- Methods and material for containment and cleaning up: Do not empty into drains. Contain and collect spillage with non-combustible absorbent materials, e.g. sand, earth, vermiculite, diatomaceous earth and place in container for disposal according to local regulations (see “Disposal considerations”). Contaminated packaging must be emptied of all residues and, following appropriate cleaning, may be sent to a recycling plant. Uncleaned packaging must be disposed of in the same manner as the medium. Neutralization with milk of lime.

Handling and storage

Comply with the health and safety at work laws.
- Information for safe handling: protect against moisture and water. In contact with water (moisture) HCl is formed which leads to an excess pressure in closed containers. Make sure that ventilation is adequate.
- Requirements to be met by storerooms and containers: do not store outside. Keep containers in a well-ventilated place. Store containers tightly closed in a cool well ventilated place.
- Storage class (VCI): 8A
- Specific end use: none.

Exposure controls / personal protection

- Personal protective equipment: provide ventilation. Where reasonably practicable this should be achieved by the use of local exhaust ventilation and good general extraction. If these are not sufficient to maintain concentrations of particulates and solvent vapour below the OEL (=Occupational Exposure Limit), suitable respiratory protection must be worn.
- Respiratory protection: fresh-air masks are recommended.
- Hand protection: use protective gloves.
- Eye protection: use tightly fitting safety glasses.
- Body protection: wear suitable protective clothing.

Stability and reactivity

- Stable under recommended storage and handling conditions.
- There are no data available on the product reactivity, chemical stability, possibility of hazardous reactions and incompatible materials.
- Conditions to avoid: in contact with water (moisture), HCl is formed which leads to an excess pressure in closed containers. Will react violently with: water, alkalies.
- Hazardous decomposition products: irritant gases/vapours.

Disposal considerations

- Pass on to an appropriate incinerating plant or depository or recycling.
- Waste treatment methods: this material and its container must be disposed of as hazardous waste. Hazardous waste in accordance with the Council Directive 91/689/EEC of 12 December 1991 on hazardous waste.
