Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The effect of the test item on the respiration rate of an activated sludge obtained from a sewage treatment system treating predominantly domestic sewage was assessed according to the ISO International Standard 8192 (corresponding to OECD test guideline 209 with minor differences). Activated sludge was exposed for 3 hours to the test item and O2 consumption was followed. Based on the respiration rate inhibition, the following results were obtained: EC20 (30 min) = 57 mg/L; EC50 (30 min) = 241 mg/L; EC20 (180 min) = 59 mg/L; EC50 (180 min.) = 177 mg/L.

In addition, a ready biodegradation study according to OECD Guideline 301F (1992) at a nominal concentration of 100 mg/L was conducted on the test item with a toxicity control group.

The test item was not considered to be inhibitory to the microbial inoculum since the biodegradation observed in the toxicity control bioreactor was not less than 25% occurred within 14 days. Therefore, the concentration of 100mg/L test material (nominal) can be considered to be the NOEC for this test system. This endpoint was used as a worst-case conservative approach for PNEC derivation.
