Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the explosiveness test (A.14 “Explosive Properties”, required in section 7.11) does not need to be conducted as there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule.
Quite apart from the sensitivity to thermal or mechanical shock that test A.14 is intended to investigate, airborne dust clouds of the substance have been shown to be weak to moderately explosible (dust explosion class St1) when ignited by a 5 kJ or 10 kJ spark.

Additional information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the explosiveness test (A.14 “Explosive Properties”, required in section 7.11) does not need to be conducted as there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule.

Quite apart from the sensitivity to thermal or mechanical shock that test A.14 is intended to investigate, two studies are available that assess the explosivity of airborne dust clouds of the substance. Both tests, one sponsored by Jungbunzlauer INERIS [Loyer C (1998)] and one sponsored by Roquette Freres [Tribouilly B (2005)], were carried out in a 20L sphere according to VDI 3763.

The results of the two tests were very similar, and are tabulated below

Dust explosion class St 1 covers substances possessing Kst values in the range 0 < Kst≤200, which are considered to be weak to moderately explosible.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance does not meet the criteria for classification and labelling for this endpoint, as set out in Regulation (EC) NO. 1272/2008.
