Description of key information

Results from an inhalation study (saturated vapour, 0,04% in air) with guinea pig (10-775 min): the test resulted in irritation, lacrimation, salivation and watery discharge from the nose. Therefore labelling with H315-319 is suggested.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (irritating)

Respiratory irritation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no study available

Additional information

Justification for selection of skin irritation / corrosion endpoint:
No study acc. to OECD 404 or similar is available. Nevertheless results from an inhalation study (saturated vapour, 0,04% in air) with guinea pig (10-775 min): the test resulted in irritation, lacrimation, salivation and watery discharge from the nose. Therefore 2,5-Hexanedione is classified as skin irritant, cat. 2 and labelled with H315.

Justification for selection of eye irritation endpoint:
No study acc. to OECD 405 or similar is available. Nevertheless results from an inhalation study (saturated vapour, 0,04% in air) with guinea pig (10-775 min): the test resulted in irritation, lacrimation, salivation and watery discharge from the nose. Therefore 2,5-Hexanedione is classified as eye irritant, cat. 22a and labelled with H319.

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: irritating
