Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Effects on fertility
Additional information
There are no reliable data for vanadyl pyrophosohate. Thus read-across was performed with the structurally similar substance, vanadium oxide sulphate (CAS 27774-13-6).
In a published study, a group of seven male rats were dosed with 100 mg/kg bw/d via drinking water. During the five last days of the treatment period, they were cohabited with pro-estrus females. The males were sacrificed on day 61 and the testes and accessory organs were examined, while the successfully mated females were allowed to litter. As results, changes in the weight and the biochemical parameters of reproductive organs were noted and differences in morphometry of reproductive organ tissue were found. The sperm motility and density was reduced, resulting in the found decline in fertility and litter size.
However, no effects via lactation were reported. Based on these findings, the LOAEL for male fertility was 100 mg/kg bw/d. Due to the structural similarity of vanadyl pyrophosphate and vanadium oxide sulphate, the same results can be expected for vanadyl pyrophosphate with a corresponding dose of 189 mg/kg bw/d.
Short description of key information:
- oral: LOAEL (rat) = 189 mg/kg bw/d
Justification for classification or non-classification
Based on the vailable data, vanadyl pyrophosphate needs to be classified:
EU: R62
CLP: reproductive toxicity category 2
