Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The partition coefficient for glycerol is measured, with log Pow = -1.75

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
-1.75
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

Log Pow is measured using procedure similar to current OECD Guideline 107: Flask Method. The result for measurement of log Pow of tritium-labeled glycerine is given in the 1980 publication of Levin. The Levin paper cites the 1971 publication of Leo et al. for description of the methods used. This result and method for glycerine and numerous other substances were also summarized in the 1995 book of Hansch, Leo, and Hoekman. However, it appears that the original value of log Pow = -1.75 was transcribed incorrectly to -1.76 in the 1995 book of Hansch, Leo, and Hoeckman; which is the value cited previously in OECD SIDS, EPI Suite Database, and in the handbook series of Howard and Meylan.
