Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No data for toxicity to microorganisms are available for Lanthanum carbonate. Therefore, data from the analogue approach source substance Cerium carbonate were applied.

The inhibitory effect of the test item Cerium carbonate on the respiration rate of aerobic wastewater microorganisms of activated sludge was investigated in a 3 hour respiration inhibition test according to OECD209 (Grutzner 2006). A limit test was performed with one concentration of Cerium carbonate of a nominal concentration of 1000 mg/L, to demonstrate that the test item has no toxic effect on activated sludge microorganisms up to and including this concentration. No significant inhibitory effect on the respiration rate of activated sludge after the incubation period of three hours at the limit test concentration of 1000 mg/L was observed. Thus, the 3 hour NOEC of Cerium carbonate to activated sludge microorganisms was at the limit of water solubility under the test conditions, or at 1000 mg/L. The EC50(3 h) was clearly above the limit of water solubility under the test conditions, or > 1000 mg/L.

Further information about the analogue source substances can be found in the data matrix of the justification for the analogue approach, which can be found either in the CSR or as attachment in Iuclid section 13.
