Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Waiver: Studies on effects on sediment organisms do not need to be conducted since the chemical safety assessment indicates that impacts to sediments are not a concern. Pyridine has a log Kow of 0.64 and a BCF of 3.162; each value is below the threshold of concern for adsorption of a substance to sediments.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Assessment of the long-term toxicity of pyridine in sediment is not required, since pyridine is unlikely to adsorb to sediments to a significant extent. A log Koc or log Kow value ≥ 3 is used as a trigger value for sediments effects assessment(Section R.7.8.7,Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment,Chapter R.7B, Endpoint-specific guidance, May 2008). Both the log Koc (1.8557) and the log Kow (0.64) for pyridine are below the level of concern for potential adsorption to sediment.
