Description of key information

In a valid guideline study with GLP compliance sodium perborate monohydrate only showed very mild skin irritating effects in NZW rabbits (Cerven, 1987). In a study with human volunteers only of 23 subjects reacted positive to sodium perborate monohydrate. Therefore, the substance was judged as not skin irritating (Unilever, 1997).
Sodium perborate monohydrate was severely eye irritating and corrosive in a valid guideline study with GLP compliance in NZW rabbits (Cerven, 1987).
In acute inhalation studies sodium perborate was shown to cause signs of irritation of the respiratory tract. In addition slight and reversible irritating effects on the mucosa of the nose have been reported in workers from some production plants.
