Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No studies are available on the toxicity of azelaic acid to microorganisms. Based on a category approach data are read across to decanoic and octanoic acid. In two studies the toxicity to Pseudomonas putida was investigated.

In a cell multiplication inhibition test (Coenen, 1988) conducted similar to ISO 10712 and selectes as key study an EC10 (18 h) of 912 mg/L (nominal) was reported. The oxygen consumption inhibition test with decanoic acid (Richterich and Mühlberg, 2006) conducted according to DIN 38412 part 27 determined an EC0 (30 min) of 3000 mg/L (nominal) and an EC10 (30 min) of 10000 mg/L. Though this test does not meet the requirements of todays standard procedures the results are considered reliable to demonstrate the low toxicity of the test substance to microorganisms. Hence, this test was used as supporting study.
