Description of key information

The n-octanol / water partition coefficient (log Pow) of DL-Panthenol was calculated to be -1.02 using the flask shaking method.

The purpose of this study was to determine the partition coefficient (octanol/water coefficient) of test substance DL-Panthenol.

Vessels containing water and n-octanol with volume ratios of 1:1, 2:1 and 1:2 were shaken for 30 minutes at room temperature. Afterwards the samples were centrifuged and equilibrated for another 1 hour at room temperature. After dilution with a solvent mixture of acetonitrile and 0.1 M potassium dihydrogenphosphate with a pH of 3.1 (30:70; v/v) the concentrations in both phases were determined by a HPLC-method. From the results obtained the n-octanol / water partition coefficient (log Pow) of DL-Panthenol was calculated to be log Pow = -1.02 using the flask shaking method.
