Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short-term toxicity to fish

In conclusion, the test item C.I. Leuco Sulphur Brown 37 had no acute toxic effects on zebra fish under the present test conditions at the theoretical concentration of 50 mg/L. This concentration corresponds to the lowest EC50 value obtained in the test with daphnia. According to the threshold approach it was demonstrated, that zebra fish is not the most sensitive species for C.I. Leuco Sulphur Brown 37.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

At the water accommodated fraction (WAF) with a nominal loading of 100 mg/L of the test item no effects were observed on Daphnia magna.

The REACH substance has a high molecular weight (98.98% > 1000 Dalton). Under environmental conditions the substance will be oxidized to very big polymeric structures with a very high molecular weight. The bioavailability of the substance is negligible (low potential to cross biological membranes). This will be supported by all toxicological studies. Based on the high molecular weight the substances should not be bioavailable.

Toxicity to aquatic algae

A toxicity test to a freshwater green alga is scientifically unjustified because of the dark color of the test substance and the resulting shadowing effect. Therefore a study with Lemna was performed (see IUCLID chapter 6.1.6)

Toxicity to aquatic plants

The test item C.I. Leuco Sulphur Brown 37 had no toxic effects on Lemna gibba during the 7-day test period up to its solubility limit in the test water under the present test conditions.

Toxicity to microorganisms

The test item C.I. Leuco Sulphur Brown 37 had no toxic effects on Lemna gibba during the 7-day test period up to its solubility limit in the test water under the present test conditions.
