Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
other:
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
September 2009
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
Study performed according to international guideline. No deficiencies. Performed under internal quality management system.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Version / remarks:
Official Journal of the European Union no. L142, May 31,2008
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
no
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
Remarks:
no ignition and no propagation of combustion occurred

In the screening test the gas flame was applied for 2 minutes to one end of the substance train, but no ignition and no propagation of combustion occurred. Only melting took place of that part of the substance that was exposed to the flame. This means that the substance is not considered as highly flammable and that no further testing is required.

Interpretation of results:
non flammable
Conclusions:
3811-04-9, Potassium chlorate is NOT considered as a Flammable solid.

Description of key information

3811-04-9, Potassium chlorate is not considered as a Flammable solid.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Potassium chlorate is non flammable.

In addition, it is not expected that potassium chlorate has pyrophoric or self-heating substance properties and reacts with water. It is very well soluble in water.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the information indicated above, no classification is needed on flammability, pyrophoric properties, self-heating substance and reactivity with water.
