First-aid measures

4.1 Description of first aid measures

Inhalation: Move to fresh air. If symptoms persist, call a physician

Skin contact: Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water while removing all contaminated

clothes and shoes.

Eye contact: Remove contact lenses. Rinse thoroughly with plenty of water, also under the eyelids. If

irritation persists, call a physician.

Ingestion: Rinse mouth with water and afterwards drink plenty of water or milk. Do NOT induce

vomiting. Consult a physician

4.2 Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Inhalation: Manganese compounds can cause irreversible damage to the central nervous system upon

prolonged exposure through inhalation. Early symptoms of exposure can be general

fatigue, stiffness in, for example, the legs, irritation and headache.

Skin contact: May cause skin irritation. May cause sensitisation.

Eye contact: May cause eye irritation.

Ingestion : none known.

4.3 Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Treat in accordance with skin, eye irritation and sensitisation procedures.

Fire-fighting measures

5.1 Extinguishing media

Suitable Extinguishing Media

Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment. Water spray, Foam, Carbon dioxide (CO2 ), Dry powder.

Contain spillage, and then collect with an electrically protected vacuum cleaner or by wet-brushing and place in container for disposal according to local regulations

Extinguishing media which shall not be used for safety reasons

No information available.

5.2 Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Special Hazard

The product is not flammable. Risk of dust explosion. Avoid generating dust; fine dust dispersed in air in sufficient concentrations, and in the presence of an ignition source is a potential dust explosion hazard

5.3 Advice for fire-fighters

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters

As in any fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective gear

Accidental release measures

6.1 Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Ensure adequate ventilation.

Engineering Measures : Avoid dust formation. Use only with adequate ventilation to keep airborne levels of dust below recommended exposure limits

Eye/Face Protection:  Goggles

Skin protection  : Long sleeved clothing

Hand Protection : Protective gloves; Nitrile rubber, Butyl rubber

Respiratory protection : Half-mask with particle filter P2 shall be worn if exposure limit value is suspected to be exceeded or the dust is perceived to be disturbing

6.2 Environmental precautions

Try to prevent the material from entering drains or water courses.

6.3 Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Contain spillage, and then collect with an electrically protected vacuum cleaner or by wet-brushing and place in container for disposal according to local regulations

Handling and storage

7.1 Precautions for safe handling

Protective measures

Avoid dusty working conditions. Use sufficient dust extraction

Advice on general occupational hygiene

Avoid inhalation, ingestion and contact with skin and eyes. General occupational hygiene measures are required to ensure safe handling of the substance. The measures involve good personal and housekeeping practices (i.e. regular cleaning with suitable cleaning devices), no drinking, eating and smoking at the workplace. Shower and change clothes at end of work shift. Do not wear contaminated clothing at home

7.2 Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
