Description of key information

Effects of sediment-incorporated tert-dodecanethiol on the midge, Chironomus riparius, during a 28-day exposure period under static test conditions have been studied according to OECD TG 219. The measured endpoints of the test were total number of adults emerged and the development time. EC50 and NOEC are respectively of 488 and 300 mg/kg dw.

Additional information

The 28-Day EC50 value based on nominal test concentrations for percent emergence of midges, (Chironomus riparius) exposed to sediment-incorporated Tert-dodecanethiol, was 488 mg a.i./Kg, with a 95% confidence interval of 224 and 893 mg a.i./Kg. There were no treatment-related effects observed on mean development times or mean development rates in any of the treatment groups. However, there was a statistically significant difference in emergence ratios between the pooled control and the 446 and 893 mg a.i./Kg treatment groups. Therefore, the 28-Day LOEC was 446 mg a.i./Kg nominal and the 28-Day NOEC was 224 mg a.i./Kg nominal (300 mg a.i./Kg, mean measured sediment concentration). As the measured concentrations were greater than 20% higher than the nominals, the NOEC is based upon the measured concentration.
