Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

T1 : time from application of the flame to a noticeable effect from the orifice.

T2 : time from application of the flame to the end of the combustion without recorded event (e.g. explosion) as in these tests or to an explosion.

The test item didn’t burn.

Lanthanum carbonate has been determined not to have thermal sensitivity to explosion.

Description of key information

Not explosive (Preliminary tests, EU Method A.16)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

The determination of explosive properties of Lanthanum carbonate was conducted according to EU Method A14 using the following systems: The BAM Fall Hammer (or shock) apparatus, the BAM friction apparatus and the Koenen steel tube apparatus to test the thermal sensitivity (Cerutti 2005).

According to the results of these 3 tests, Lanthanum carbonate has been determined not to have shock sensitivity, friction sensitivity, or thermal sensitivity to explosion.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on oxidising properties of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

The substance is not explosive according to EU Method A.16.
