Description of key information

No data on acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates is available for H250 sulphonic acid.  Data from LABS Na (CAS No: 68411-30-3) as structural analogue was used to understand the acute toxicity profile of substance to daphnia.  The 48-hr EC50 was 2.9 mg a.i/L .

Benzenesulphonic acid, dimethyl-,mono C14-16-alkyl derivative (H250 sulphonic acid) is a UVCB. Based on structural and functional similarities, data on Benzenesulphonic acid, 4-C10-13-sec-alkyl derivatives (LABS; CAS no: 85536-14-7) being registered under REACH, LABS Na (CAS no: 68411-30-3) being registered under REACH and LAB (CAS no: 67774-74-7) being registered under REACH are suitable as supporting study in case where specific data on the substance is lacking.

To assess the acute toxicity profile of the substance to daphnia, structural analogue approach was used from LABS Na (CAS No: 68411-30-3). The acute toxicity to daphnia of linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LABS Na) was determined under static conditions according to OECD guideline 202. In a 48 h acute toxicity study, Daphnia magna were exposed to LAS Na at nominal concentrations of 0 (Control), 3.2, 5.6, 10, 18, 32, 56 and 100 mg/L, based on the sample as received. The sample was 12.1% active ingredient, and results were adjusted to the active ingredient basis. The 48 h EC50 value based on mobility was 2.9 mg a.i./L with 95% CL of 2.5 to 3.5 mg/L.
