Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures
INHALATION: Remove patient from the contaminated area and lead to a warm, well aerated place; provide oxygen inhalations. If other symptoms appear,
provide hospitalisation under observation. Contact a physician.

CONTACT WITH EYES: Highly lachrymogenic, especially if hot; irritates ocular eye mucous membranes. In case of contact with eyes, wash abundantly with
running water, with eyelid open, for at least 15 minutes. Contact a physician

CONTACT WITH SKIN: Skin irritant. Remove contaminated clothing and wash affected area with soap and water, then rinse; treat with cortisone ointments.
If affected areas are extensive and deep, contact a physician.

INGESTION: Induce vomiting; do not, however, if the patient is in an unconscious state.
Administer by mouth as a dilutant 200ml (adult), 50ml (children) a suspension of activated carbon in water (10g/100ml).

Primary symptoms and effects, both severe and delayed
Irritant for the skin, mucous membranes and eyes
Avoid contact with eyes and skin, avoid inhaling.

Indication of need to immediately contact a physician and obtain special treatments
In case of inhalation, contact with eyes or with skin, and ingestion, consult a doctor immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishers
-Suitable extinguishing agents
Sprayed water
Carbon dioxide
Dry powders
Alcoholic or polymeric foams

-Unsuitable extinguishing agents
None.

Special hazards deriving from the substance or mixture e
Develops toxic fumes

Recommendations for fire-fighting personnel
Remove all people not essential to the task at hand. Allow only well trained persons who are informed on the product’s hazards to intervene. In all cases make
use of an auto-respirator. In case of intervention in close proximity, wear anti-acid overalls providing total protection. If possible, remove recipients exposed
to heat, otherwise cool them down with abundant water.

Accidental release measures

-Personal precautions, protection equipment and emergency procedures
Remove non-trained personnel. Intervene wearing PPE.

-Environmental precautions
Avoid spilling if possible and collect the product and any clean-up equipment into containers and confined areas.

-Containment and clean-up methods and materials
Collect using sawdust. If the product is melted, let solidify and collect using mechanical means (gasmask and anti-dust facial mask); then wash with
pressurised hot water (60/80 C).

Handling and storage

-Precautionary measures for safe handling
Avoid contact or inhalation of vapours; provide suitable ventilation. Use gloves, a visor and other protective clothing. Use a mask with a filter for organic
substances if exposed to vapours.

-Conditions for safe storage, including incompatibilities
Lacquered iron drums. Heated steel tanks. Keep in a shaded area if possible.

Exposure controls / personal protection

-Control parameters
Exposure limits: not established by ACGIH. Maintain concentration as low as possible.

-Exposure controls
Technical measures
Aerate work areas.
If a risk of the product’s decomposition or emission exists, provide suitable air ventilation for the area.

Respiratory protection
Mask with filter for organic substances.

Protection for hands
Wear vinyl gloves (transparent True Touch)

Protection for eyes
Eyewear for chemical risks with seal/facial screen, in case of risk of splashing.

Protection for skin
Work overalls providing complete cover
PVC overalls and boots if risk of splashing exists.

Specific hygiene measures:
Visible showers and fountains.

Stability and reactivity

-Reactivity
Data not available.

-Chemical stability
Stable in: air, humidity, steel. Does not self-decompose.

-Possibility of dangerous reactions
If the product comes into contact with heat, sulphuric acid, nitric acid, halogens and their mixtures, substances which can decompose, strong oxidants, strong bases.

-Conditions to be avoided
Heat

- Incompatible materials
Sulphuric acid, nitric acid, halogens and their mixtures, substances which can decompose, strong oxidants, strong bases.

-Hazardous decomposition products
HF, NOx, SO3, CO, HCl

Disposal considerations

-Waste processing procedures
Dissolve or mix the material with a combustible solvent and burn in a chemical incinerator equipped with a post-combustion chamber and scrubber.

Treatment of packaging/containers
Wash all packaging abundantly with hot water, avoiding any type of contact with vapours, treat effluents as waste. Clean empty packaging can be reused,
recycled or eliminated in accordance with local/national directives in force.
