Study design
- Oxygen conditions:
- aerobic
- Inoculum or test system:
- activated sludge (adaptation not specified)
- Details on inoculum:
- The effluent was kept under aerobic conditions in the period between sampling and application. To prepare the inoculum the sample was filtered through a coarse filter, the first 200 mL being discarded. The rest of the filtrate was kept aerobic until used. The inoculum was used on the day of collection. The number of bacteria, determined by means of Dip-slide was 10^4 bacteria/mL:
- Duration of test (contact time):
- 28 d
Results and discussion
- Details on results:
- The biodegradability at 28 days was 15.7%.
BOD5 / COD results
BOD5 / COD
- Parameter:
- COD
- Value:
- 2.518 mg O2/g test mat.
Any other information on results incl. tables
The COD of GM 102 E was 2.518 mg O2/mg (average value).
The ThOD (Theoric Oxygen Demand) of GM 102 E was 2.506 mg O2/mg.
The BOD of GM 102 E at days 5, 15 and 28 was respectively:
- 0.110 mg O2/mg
- 0.300 mg O2/mg
- 0.395 mg O2/mg
The biodegradability of GM 102 E at days 5, 15 and 28 was respectively: 4.4, 11.9 and 15.7%
The biodegradability of the reference substance was more than 60% at 28 days.
The depletion of dissolved oxygen in the two series of bottles containing 2 mg/L of sodium acetate plus 2 mg/L of GM 102 E is higher than the reference substance (sodium acetate) bottles.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Interpretation of results:
- not inherently biodegradable
- Conclusions:
- The COD average value was 2.518 mg O2/mg.
THe BOD values at 5, 15 and 28 days were 0.110, 0.300 and 0.395 mg O2/mg, respectively.
On the basis of the biodegradability values found that were 4.4, 11.9 and 15.7% respectively at 5, 15 and 28 days we can conclude that in the conditions adopted in this study the test article GM 102 E showed a little biodegradation and did not display inhibitory effects.
