Conclusions:
The sub-chronic toxicity of CYCLOHEXYL SALICYLATE to Zebrafish (Brachydanio rerio) was studied over a 28-Day period under semi-static conditions (renewal every 48- or 72-hours). The study duration was extended from 14-Days to 28-Days to define a more accurate NOEC, since levels of toxicity observed over the initial 14-Day period was considered minor. Test concentrations (0.1 to 4.0 mg/L nominal) and a Control in drinking water were studied. Mortality and a suite of behavioural observations (narcosis, apathy, lack of reactivity, impaired balance, cramp, discolouration, jumpiness/nervousness, hyper-ventilation, reduction in sexual interest, shyness) were noted during the course of the experiment. Substance specific analyses by HPLC were performed to determine the actual water concentrations. Analytics indicated that the detected amounts of CYCLOHEXYL SALICYLATE in freshly prepared medium were the order of 63 to 105% of nominal. This figure decreased to, on average, 35% of nominal after 48 hours, and, 20% of nominal after 72 hours.
