First-aid measures
Description of first aid measures
General information: Persons who have come into contact with the material or have breathed in vapours should get immediate medical teatment also in case of delayed symptoms. Add all available substance related information. Immediately remove any clothing soiled by the product. In case of burns, immediately cool affected skin for as long as possible with cold water. Do not remove clothing adhering to skin.
After inhalation: In case of unconsciousness place patient stably in side position for transportation.
After skin contact: Immediately wash with water and soap and rinse thoroughly.
After eye contact: Remove contact lenses immediately! Rinse opened eye for several minutes under running water.
After swallowing: Call for a doctor immediately. Drink plenty of water and provide fresh air. Call for a doctor immediately.
Information for doctor: For the evaluation of acute and/or chronic toxicological properties currently no sufficient data are available. Potential health hazards caused by this substance/mixture cannot be definitely excluded.
Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed Burning of eyes, mucous membranes and skin. Coughing, headache, indisposition, shortness of breath.
Skin: Strong irritating/corrosive action.
Eyes: Strong irritation with danger of serious damage to eyes.
Hazards and systemic effects: Extremely corrosive action on mucous membranes of upper respiratory tract as well as eyes and skin.
After contact with this material possibly corrosive action on skin and mucous mambranes. Risk of serious damage to eyes.
Possible routes of intake: Intake by swallowing or breathing of vapours.
Target organs: Skin, eyes, mucous membranes.
Chronic effects: No chronic effects known.
Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
No specific antidote. Symptomatic treatment.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing agents: Foam, Fire-extinguishing powder, Carbon dioxide
For safety reasons unsuitable extinguishing agents: No restriction in large fires.
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture: Bromine-containing compounds will form toxic products during
combustion or pyrolysis.
Can form explosive gas-air mixtures.
In case of fire, the following can be released:
Carbon monoxide (CO), Hydrogen fluoride (HF), Hydrogen Bromide (HBr), Bromine (Br₂)
Advice for firefighters
Protective equipment: Wear self-contained respiratory protective device. Chemical resistant protective suit. Under the protective suit a fire protective suit according to EN 469 should be applied. Use chemical protective suit and self contained breathing apparatus while undressing contaminated co-workers or handling contaminated equipment.
Additional information: The action of heat on containers leads to an increase in pressure with the risk of bursting and subsequent explosion. (BLEVE) (BLEVE = Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion) Dispose of fire debris and contaminated fire fighting water in accordance with official regulations. Collect contaminated fire fighting water separately. It must not enter the sewage system.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Wear protective clothing.
Avoid contact with eyes and skin and clothes.
Keep people at a distance and stay on the windward side.
Access only for trained personnel with personal protective equipment.
Use respiratory protective device against the effects of fumes/dust/aerosol.
Keep away from ignition sources.
Ensure adequate ventilation.
Avoid spillage of product into the environment.
Implementation of further measures based on existing emergency plans.
Environmental precautions: Keep contaminated washing water and dispose of appropriately.
Inform respective authorities in case of seepage into water course or sewage system.
Do not allow undiluted product or large quantities of it to reach ground water, water course or sewage system.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up: Ensure adequate ventilation.
Put damaged containers into recovery drums.
Dispose contaminated material as waste accordingly.
Discharge into waste water channels and biological treatment plants only after clearance with the operating company and in accordance with local Authority approval.
Keep away from sources of ignition, do not smoke.
Check for explosive atmospheres.
Handling and storage
Precautions for safe handling: Contaminated protective equipment should be cleaned before taking it off. Empty containers must not be used for other products. Prevent formation of aerosols. All aparatus must be grounded. Use additional container if material is transported in glass bottles. Use only non sparking metal tools. Ensure good ventilation/exhaustion at the workplace. Take care with emptied containers - explosion possible on ignition. Fill only in dedicated and assigned containers. Keep containers tightly sealed.
Information about fire - and explosion protection: Keep ignition sources away - Do not smoke.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:
Storage Requirements to be met by storerooms and receptacles: Store in a dry location, keep away from humidity. Storage in closed rooms needs a forced air circulation. Store in a cool location.
Corrosion of metals: It should generally be borne in mind that there is a possibility of corrosion on contact with this material. Resistance should be checked in each individual case.
Information about storage in one common storage facility: Store away from oxidising agents.
Further information about storage conditions: Protect from heat and direct sunlight. All apparatus and machinery should be grounded.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Control parameters
Ingredients with limit values that require monitoring at the workplace: Not required.
Appropriate engineering controls: Devices and vessels must be inerted before starting operation. Do not use pressurized air for delivering. Check seals on flanges and valves for suitability and corrosion resistance. If necessary inspection intervals should be defined! Waste gases should be led into the atmosphere only via appropriate separators, scrubbers or incinerators.
Individual protection measures, such as personal protective equipment
General protective and hygienic measures: Contaminated protective suit shall be cleaned before taking it off. Keep away from foodstuffs, beverages and feed. Immediately remove all soiled and contaminated clothing. Wash hands before breaks and at the end of work. Store protective clothing separately. Avoid contact with the eyes and skin.
Respiratory protection: In case of brief exposure or low pollution use respiratory filter device. In case of intensive or longer exposure use self contained respiratory protective device.
Hand protection: Selection of the glove material on consideration of the penetration times, rates of diffusion and the degradation.
Suitable materials:
For the permanent contact gloves made of
the following materials are suitable: Nitrile rubber (NBR), PVC gloves, Natural rubber (NR), Neoprene gloves
Check for tightness before use. Replace damaged gloves.
Eye/face protection: Tightly sealed goggles.
Body protection: Protective work clothing Selection of personal protective suits depending on amount and concentration of hazardous material and on possible exposition at the working place.
Protection against thermal hazards: No specific measures required.
Environmental exposure controls: Avoid spillage of product into the environment. If possible use this material only in closed systems and devices. In case of open plant systems (sampling devices, filling and discharging, cleansing works etc.) use local exhaust and collecting trays. Follow emission limit values. Measures in case of unwanted emissions should
be established.
Risk management measures: General protective and hygienic measures have to be observed. Handling and use of this material/formulation only under controlled conditions in closed systems. Employees who use this material/formulation must be trained and demonstrably instructed about possible risks for man and environment. Measures for prevention of hazards in case of unwanted leakage shall be implemented.
Stability and reactivity
Thermal decomposition / conditions to be avoided: No decomposition if used according to specifications.
Possibility of hazardous reactions: Forms explosive gas mixture with air.
Incompatible materials: Strong oxidizing agents.
Hazardous decomposition products: Bromine, Hydrogen bromide, Hydrogen fluoride, Carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide
Disposal considerations
Waste treatment methods
Recommendation: Must not be disposed together with household garbage. Do not allow product to reach sewage system. Must be specially treated adhering to official regulations. If possible recovery or recycling.
Uncleaned packaging: Do not open contaminated drums by cutting or welding - danger of explosion! Danger: Emty containers may explode after ignition.
Recommendation: Empty contaminated packagings thoroughly. They may be recycled after thorough and proper cleaning. Contaminated containers or containers with residual amounts must be treated as hazardous wastes.
Appropriate disposal: Empty container completely. Storage in a safe place after emptying.
