The purpose of this study was to evaluate the acute toxicity of the test item to fish in accordance with OECD Guideline 203. For this purpose, juvenile Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were exposed in a static test to aqueous test media containing the test item at various concentrations under defined conditions. The recorded effects were the mortality and sublethal effects on the fish.
The acute toxicity of the test item on Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) was determined in ISO Medium (prepared according to OECD guideline 203). Five nominal test concentrations of 10, 4.5, 2.1, 0.94 and 0.43 mg/L and a test water control with 7 test animals each were incubated in a controlled environment for 96 hours at 13 to 15°C. Sublethal effects and mortality were determined and recorded at test start and after 2, 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours of test duration.
No mortality or sublethal effects were observed in the control and at the five test item concentrations during the whole test duration.
The toxic effect of the test item to Rainbow Trout (Onchorhynchus mykiss) was determined in a static dose-response test. All fish survived until the end of the experiment and showed no sublethal effects during the exposure time, except of two fish with dark coloration after 24 hours in the highest test concentration (10 mg/L). After 48 hours this effect could not be seen anymore and therefore does not appear to be a substance related effect.
The 96 hour LC50 value was therefore calculated to be > 10 mg/L. The 96-hour NOEC was 10 mg/L and the 96-hour LOEC was > 10 mg/L.
