Species / strain
Species / strain / cell type:
S. typhimurium TA 1535, TA 1537, TA 98, TA 100 and TA 102
Metabolic activation:
with and without
Metabolic activation system:
Cofactor supplemented post-mitochondrial fraction (S9 mix), prepared from the livers of rats treated with Aroclor 1254.
Test concentrations with justification for top dose:
First experiment: 31.6, 100, 316, 1000, 3160 and 5000 µg/plate with and without metabolic activation
Second experiment: 31.6, 100, 316, 1000, 3160 and 5000 µg/plate with and without metabolic activation

The top dose was chosen based on two preliminary cytotoxicity test in TA 100 with and without metabolic activation for which no cytotoxicity was observed up to and including the highest concentration of 5000 µg/plate.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Under the conditions of the test, the test item was mutagenic in S. typhimurium strains TA100 and TA1535 with and without metabolic activation. There was no mutagenic response in strains TA 98, TA102 and TA1537 with and without metabolic activation up to 5000 µg/plate.
