As the density of the test substance could not be determined at 20°C, the relative density was not calculated. Due to the high viscosity of the test substance, the density was determined at 50°C.

Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the density of the test substance according to OECD Guideline 109 and EU Method A.3 (oscillating densitometer), in compliance with GLP. As the density of the test substance could not be determined at 20°C, the relative density was not calculated. Due to the high viscosity of the test substance, the density was determined at 50°C. Indeed, the viscosity of the test substance was diminished by elevating the temperature to 50.0°C. The test substance was then injected into the U-tube by means of a disposable plastic syringe, avoiding air bubbles. The sample was thermostated to 50.0°C in the apparatus. The density was read from the display after a constant oscillating frequency (constant period time) was reached. The test was performed in triplicate. The measurements did not vary by more than 0.0003 g/cm3 and were therefore accepted to be valid. Under the study conditions, the density of the test substance was determined to be 0.8948 g/cm3 at 50°C (Tognucci, 1999).
