Since Acid Black 233 is a solid powder with negligible vapour pressure, it is very unlikely to be found in the air compartment. It is highly water soluble, shows a very high hydrophylic behaviour (logKow <-3.4 at 20 °C) and is expected to be stable under typical environmental pH conditions. In addition, it is neither readily nor inheretly biodegradable.Therefore, it is likely to be found in the water compartment.

It is characterized by a low potential for bioaccumulation.

Based on experimental data on its adsorption/desorption potential, Acid Black 233 was found to be as immobile in the soils.

The primary source of possible substance environmental release is represented by industrial waste waters; the substance is not expected to be directly released to soil and the release in the air compartment can be considered as not relevant.
