Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

No measured data are available for the biodegradation for any of the streams within this Category. As streams within this Category are gases at standard temperature and pressure, they are expected to partition primarily to air.

Use of QSAR estimates predicts that streams within this Category will degrade rapidly in the environment. Isobutene and Butane were all shown to be readily biodegradable. Isobutane was deemed not readily biodegradable due to having a Biowin5 (MITI Linear model) of 0.4898 and Biowin 7 (anaerobic linear) of 0.4315. However, Biowin 2 (non-linear model), Biowin 3 (ultimate biodegradation time) and Biowin 6 (MITI non-linear model) did not meet the screening criteria for Persistence in the PBT Assessment. In addition, a second model (BioHCWin v1.01) predicts that isobutene, but-1-ene, isobutane and butane will biodegrade rapidly with a half life of between 1.9 and 3.2 days. Therefore it is considered that this Category is readily biodegradable.
