- Executive summary:
The study was conducted according to guideline Data requirements for supporting registration of pesticides (Notification No. 12-Nousan-8147) to determine acute 72-hour toxicity of test substance in the predatory spider, Pardosa pseudoannulata (wolf spider). The test organisms, second instar larval spiderlings, were exposed for 72 hours to an untreated control and to fresh dried residues of test substance applied to moistened quartz sand at a single nominal rate of 0.15 µg ai/cm², equivalent to a field rate of 15 g/ha in 6 µL of water per cm², a volume equivalent to 600 L water/ha. A wetting agent, Tween 20, was included at a rate of 0.01% v/v in the spray mixture. A toxic reference (dimethoate) was included in the test at 2.58 µg a.i./6 µL/cm² (258 g dimethoate/ha). The test was comprised of three replicates of 10 larvae for the treated group, and 10 larvae each for the control and toxic reference groups. Assessments for mortalities were carried out 2, 24, 48 and 72 hours after treatment.
Under the conditions of the study, the 72-hour LR50 of test substance in Pardosa pseudoannulata based on mortality and nominal rates was >15 g/ha, the highest concentration tested.
