Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No information on aquatic invertebrates and aquatic plants for the target substance is available. For this reason data on an analogue substance (similar substance 01) was taken into account. More details on the similarity between the two substances is reported in section 13.

Short-term toxicity to fish

The acute lethal toxicity of test item to zebrafish was investigated under static exposure conditions, over a period of 96 h. The test was conducted according to the OECD guideline 203. The applied nominal test concentration was 500 mg/l. One replicates was tested with test item solubilized in ethanol and one replicate was tested including test item only. At 500 mg/l, with and without 100 mg/l of ethanol as solubilizers, no effects were found.

Unfortunately, the complete study report cannot be retrieved, thus details about test conditions are not available.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

A non-GLP preliminary experiment was carried out at saturation concentration to determine the approximate toxicity of the test item. For preparation of the test solution a supersaturated solution (100 mg/L nominal loading).Based on the results of this non-GLP preliminary test, the test item Fluorescent Brightener 313 had no toxic effect on Daphnia magna at aquatic saturation. The 48h EC50, and NOEC values can be determined to be higher than saturation.

Toxicity to aqutic plants other than algae

The substance was tested on Lemna Gibba according to the OECD guideline 221. A limit test was conducted at a single concentration at saturation (corresponding to 100 mg/L nominal concentration) using concurrent control ran. The exposure concentration of the saturated test solution was analytically determined to be 0.016 mg/L (calculated as the geometric mean of start and end concentrations measured at each renewal period).

The plants were exposed to the test substance for 7 days in a semi-static system (24-h water renewal periods).

In this 168-hour semi-static growth inhibition test onLemna gibbathe test item Fluorescent Brightener 313 had no toxic effect at aquatic saturation (measured value: 0.016 mg/L; equivalent to 100 mg/L nominal concentration).

Accordingly, the 168-h EC10, EC20, EC50 and the LOEC values based on growth rate and yield were determined to be > 0.016 mg/L (equivalent to 100 mg/L nominal concentration). The 168-h NOEC values were determined to be 0.016 mg/L (equivalent to 100 mg/L nominal concentration).

All validity criteria were met.

Based on the information availabale the test substance doesn't show any concern for aquatic environment therefore, it was not classified according to the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
